The Ghanaian government has launched a new digital platform that allows people planning to get married to verify whether their prospective partners are already married.

The application, Marrify, was introduced by the Ministry of Gender in collaboration with MarryRight, an organisation specialising in family law and marriage matters.

The platform was unveiled at an event attended by Ghana’s Minister of Gender, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey.

Lartey said the initiative was designed to help prospective couples obtain important information about their partners before making a lifelong commitment.

According to her, having access to such information would encourage greater responsibility and informed decision-making among people preparing for marriage.

She added that the initiative could promote relationships founded on honesty and respect while contributing to efforts to prevent gender-based violence.

The minister encouraged prospective couples to approach marriage with greater awareness, stressing the importance of making responsible choices before entering into the union.

Marrify is expected to provide users with a convenient way to conduct marital-status checks as part of the preparations for marriage.
