Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has ordered an immediate investigation into the poor execution of a 4.76-kilometre road project in the Aduramigba community, Ido-Osun area.

The directive followed a peaceful protest on Friday by residents who accused the contractor of delivering substandard work without a proper drainage system.

During the protest, community members carried placards with messages such as “We say no to no drainage and stonebase road” and “We kick against corruption on this project.”

Speaking on behalf of the residents, community chairman Sunday Ogundele said, “The quality of this road is so poor. They started tarring the road on Sunday and Monday, but the rainfall on Thursday washed away the asphalt in some portions.”

Reacting to the outcry, the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, confirmed that a team comprising officials from the Ministries of Rural Development and Works, along with the Osun Rural Access and Mobility Project, had visited the site for an assessment.

“The team conveyed Governor Adeleke’s directive for an immediate review of the work done on the road while directing remedial action in line with best practices,” the statement read.

The officials are also in talks with the contractors and project managers to determine corrective steps and are expected to report back to the governor by Monday.
