The West African Examinations Council has appointed Suleiman Kum as the new Head of its Nigeria National Office.
Kum, 56, takes over from Dr Amos Dangut, whose three-year tenure ended on October 1, 2026. Dangut has since assumed the position of Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of WAEC.
Before his new appointment, Kum served as Senior Deputy Registrar in charge of Test Administration and had previously worked as Deputy Registrar at the Nigeria National Office.
He joined WAEC on July 17, 1998, as an Assistant Registrar II and has since held several positions across the organisation.
During his career, Kum was involved in a number of initiatives aimed at improving examination administration and security. These included the introduction of variable data printing and security printing, facial-recognition biometric attendance systems and computer-based achievement tests.
He also played roles in the establishment of the WAEC custodial centre in Gusau, Zamfara State, and has gained experience in test development, examination administration, security, branch management and general administration.
Kum has worked in several WAEC offices, including Awka, Yola, Makurdi, Gusau, Kano, Port Harcourt and Ikeja. He has also served in the council’s Security Printing unit and as Director of Administration.
Academically, he holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the National Open University of Nigeria and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Educational Administration and Planning.
With nearly three decades of experience at WAEC, Kum is expected to lead the council’s Nigeria office and oversee its examination activities and administration in the country.
