US President Donald Trump has said the United States would need only about two weeks to hit every remaining military target in Iran if it chose to intensify its campaign, describing the country as already “militarily defeated.”
Trump made the remarks in an interview recorded last week with journalist Sharyl Attkisson and aired on Sunday. In the interview, he argued that US and allied strikes since late February had already achieved most of their objectives.
According to him, roughly 70 per cent of the intended targets had been dealt with, while several others could still be struck within a short period if Washington decided to continue operations.
He suggested that even without further action, the level of damage already inflicted on Iran’s military infrastructure amounted to what he described as “final touches,” adding that Tehran might not publicly acknowledge the extent of the setbacks.
Trump also criticised the role of US allies during the confrontation, labelling NATO a “paper tiger” and accusing member states of failing to provide meaningful support.
His comments come amid reports that Iran has responded to a recent US proposal aimed at ending the hostilities that began on February 28 following coordinated US and Israeli strikes.
While maintaining that Iran had suffered significant military losses, Trump cautioned that the situation was not yet fully resolved, indicating that tensions in the region remain high as diplomatic efforts continue behind the scenes to de-escalate the crisis.
