Abubakar Muhammed, a United Arab Emirates national, has been extradited to Nigeria to face charges for an alleged $307,500 fraud involving luxury vehicle shipments.

Muhammed was arrested in Dubai on April 15 and returned to Nigeria on May 23, after being on the run since 2023.

Force Public Relations Officer Muyiwa Adejobi explained, “Muhammed’s extradition marks a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to combat transnational financial crime.” The suspect had been the subject of an INTERPOL Red Notice following a petition by an Abuja-based international businessman.

Investigations revealed Muhammed posed as a shipping agent and secured a deal to transport 10 high-end vehicles from the UAE to Nigeria. After gaining the victim’s trust, he collected $307,500 through a third-party FCMB bank account in Nigeria.

Adejobi added, “The funds were subsequently laundered through complex financial operations in Dubai.” Muhammed also provided a forged bill of lading before disappearing, prompting an international manhunt.

He will now be prosecuted at the Federal High Court as authorities continue to crack down on cross-border financial crimes.
