The planned opposition political parties summit involving former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Anambra State governor Peter Obi and other political leaders has been moved from August 18 to August 31, 2026.
The G-100, which is organising the meeting, said the postponement would allow participating parties to carry out further consultations following the National Peace Summit scheduled for August 18.
The group is seeking greater cooperation among opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections, including the possibility of presenting a single presidential candidate to challenge President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress.
In a statement signed by former APC chieftain Salihu Lukman, the G-100 said representatives of six opposition parties and members of the House of Representatives minority caucus agreed that the summit would be more productive if held after the National Peace Summit.
The group said consultations with party leaders and other stakeholders had been constructive, although differences remained among the parties.
It added that the extra time would be used to deepen discussions and develop proposals for cooperation ahead of the August 31 meeting.
The G-100 expressed confidence that the summit could produce significant outcomes as opposition parties seek a stronger and more coordinated political strategy ahead of the 2027 elections.
The venue and programme for the summit will be announced later.
