The United Arab Emirates has accused Iran of attacking a vessel operated by its state-owned oil company, ADNOC, while it was sailing through the Strait of Hormuz.

ADNOC said the vessel came under attack on Friday, August 14, but reported no injuries. The company said the situation was brought under control.

The incident is the latest in a series of attacks involving ADNOC-linked vessels in the strategic waterway. Earlier in the week, two other ADNOC vessels were reportedly targeted while transiting the strait, with no casualties recorded.

The UAE Foreign Ministry condemned the attacks, accusing Iran’s Revolutionary Guard of targeting commercial shipping and using the Strait of Hormuz as a means of economic pressure.

UAE presidential adviser Anwar Gargash said Abu Dhabi would continue to defend freedom of navigation while pursuing diplomacy and adherence to international law.

The growing attacks have heightened concerns over the safety of ships using the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important routes for oil and gas shipments. Shipping activity through the waterway has already fallen amid the escalating tensions between Iran and the United States.

The UAE has called for the waterway to be fully reopened, while Iran has set several conditions for restoring unrestricted passage, including an end to hostilities, the lifting of sanctions and compensation for wartime damage.

The latest incident adds to mounting pressure on global energy and shipping markets as the conflict continues to disrupt traffic through the vital Gulf waterway.
