US President Donald Trump has announced plans to establish a new government body known as the “AI Force” as he moves to strengthen the country’s artificial intelligence industry.

Trump made the announcement on Saturday through posts on his Truth Social platform, where he also said he would appoint an artificial intelligence “czar” to oversee the administration’s efforts in the sector.

The president said his administration would support the continued expansion of artificial intelligence rather than introduce measures that could slow the industry’s growth.

He also rejected concerns about the potential dangers of increasingly advanced AI systems, describing warnings about the technology becoming a threat to humanity as a “hoax.”

Trump compared the proposed AI Force to the Space Force, which was established during his first term. However, he did not provide details on the proposed body’s structure, funding, membership or specific responsibilities.

The announcement comes as concerns over the rapid development of AI continue to grow among some technology experts and industry figures. Some have called for stronger safeguards and a slower approach to developing increasingly powerful AI systems.

Trump, however, has argued that the United States must continue advancing the technology to maintain its position in the global AI race, particularly against China.

The president also recently asked his followers to vote on whether artificial intelligence should be given a different name. He suggested “Superior Intelligence,” “Extreme Intelligence” and “Supreme Intelligence” as alternatives.

The proposed AI Force is yet to be fully defined, with the White House yet to provide details on when it will be established or how it will operate.
