The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) has shifted the date of its 2025 All Nigeria Editors Conference (ANEC) to November 12 and 13, confirming that President Bola Tinubu will officially open the event in Abuja.
In a statement jointly signed by NGE President Eze Anaba and General Secretary Onuoha Ukeh, the Guild said the new schedule was due to factors beyond its control.
The annual gathering, which brings together editors, managing directors, and senior journalists from print, broadcast, and online media, will host over 500 participants to discuss issues related to journalism, governance, and national unity.
Themed “Democratic Governance and National Cohesion: The Role of Editors,” with a sub-theme “Electoral Integrity and Trust Deficit: What Nigerians Expect in 2027,” the conference aims to explore how the media can strengthen democracy and foster national development.
Prominent speakers include Prof. Awa Kalu (SAN), who will discuss “Election Disputes and Judicial Integrity: Navigating the Thin Line Between Law and Politics,” and Prof. Sheriff Ghali Ibrahim of the University of Abuja, who will address “The Imperative of Economic and Political Reforms in a Challenged Nation.”
Other presentations will focus on the changing face of journalism, the fight against misinformation, the rise of artificial intelligence, and media’s role in national security. These topics will be handled by experts such as Prof. Abiodun Adeniyi of Baze University and former Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Lucky Irabor (retd.).
An executive session is also planned for the second day, where editors will interact with government officials, policymakers, and business leaders to discuss pressing national concerns.
The NGE apologised for the date change and assured members and guests that the 2025 conference would remain a valuable platform for promoting credible journalism and national cohesion.
