President Bola Tinubu is set to meet with former U.S. President Donald Trump in the coming days to discuss rising tensions over allegations of Christian persecution in Nigeria, the Presidency has announced.

Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, revealed on Saturday that the meeting will focus on strengthening counterterrorism cooperation and clarifying reports about religiously motivated attacks in the country.

According to Bwala, both leaders have a shared interest in tackling terrorism and promoting global security. He noted that Trump previously supported Nigeria by approving arms sales during his presidency, which the Tinubu administration has effectively used in the ongoing fight against insurgency.

“The meeting will allow both presidents to exchange ideas on counterterrorism and address misunderstandings about the nature of attacks in Nigeria,” Bwala said.

The planned talks come after Trump accused the Nigerian government of allowing widespread killings of Christians. In a series of posts on his social media platform, he declared Nigeria a “country of particular concern,” warning that the U.S. could suspend aid and possibly take military action if the situation continues.

Trump’s comments followed accusations by U.S. Congressman Riley Moore, who claimed that Nigeria is “the deadliest place in the world for Christians.” He also urged Washington to halt arms sales to Nigeria until the government takes visible steps to end the violence.

The Nigerian government, however, insists that terrorist attacks in the country are not based on religion, stressing that both Christians and Muslims have been victims of the violence.

Bwala added that Tinubu remains open to dialogue and cooperation with the U.S., emphasizing the President’s commitment to peace, security, and transparency.

The meeting’s exact date and location have not yet been confirmed, but it is expected to take place soon either at the State House in Abuja or at the White House in Washington.
