President Bola Tinubu has reportedly stepped back into the ongoing political feud between Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, marking his second intervention in the crisis.

According to sources close to the Presidency, Tinubu has summoned Wike for talks abroad to address the tensions, while Fubara also traveled internationally, reportedly to meet the President in France. The move comes amid a fresh impeachment notice against Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, filed by members of the Rivers State House of Assembly aligned with Wike.

The impeachment allegations include extra-budgetary spending, the demolition of the Assembly complex, withholding of funds, and refusal to comply with a Supreme Court ruling on legislative autonomy.

Deputy Governor Odu faces similar accusations, including obstruction of the Assembly and allowing unauthorised office occupancy. The Speaker of the House has said the notice will be formally served within seven days, with proceedings resuming on January 15.

Observers note that the current allegations mirror those that led to the state of emergency and the six-month suspension of Fubara and Odu in March 2025, after which Tinubu mediated a truce. The feud reignited soon after, with Wike accusing Fubara of reneging on previous agreements, while the governor responded with veiled criticisms of his former boss.

APC leaders have expressed concern over Wike’s actions, saying they undermine party unity and the President’s authority. Some party officials warned that the feud, if unchecked, could destabilize the region and negatively affect national security and economic activities.

Wike, however, maintains that his focus is on promoting unity among political leaders in Rivers State and supporting the President ahead of the 2027 elections. During a visit to Andoni Local Government Area, he called on leaders to continue working together under a broad coalition and encouraged community collaboration for the benefit of the people.
