President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Saturday evening held a closed-door meeting with several prominent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) figures at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
In attendance were the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike; former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose; former Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom; and former Abia State governor, Okezie Ikpeazu.
According to a source who spoke to Daily Post under anonymity, “Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, President Bola Tinubu, and former Governors of Benue and Abia States, Samuel Ortom and Okezie Ikpeazu respectively, met at the Presidential Villa, Abuja today.”
While the details of the high-profile meeting remain undisclosed at press time, the gathering has stirred political speculation, especially in light of ongoing realignments within the PDP and the wider political landscape.
This is not the first recent contact between Tinubu and Fayose. During the Sallah break on June 9, Fayose visited the President at his Lagos residence. Addressing journalists after that meeting, the PDP chieftain said he was there to “encourage” Tinubu.
“I have always believed in President Tinubu’s leadership even while I was a sitting governor under the PDP,” Fayose said. “He deserves commendation because he is stabilising the economy.”
The unexpected gathering of former PDP governors at Aso Rock is seen by observers as a possible sign of shifting political loyalties ahead of 2027.
