THE CALL TO REPENT
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
From then on Jesus began to preach, “Repent of your sins and turn to God, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near.” Matthew 4:17 (NLT)
TODAY’S WORD
In our scripture for today, we read that *Jesus began to preach “Repent of your sins and turn to God, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near.” His words are as applicable to us today as they were over 2000 years ago. Repentance from sin is one of the fundamentals of the Christian faith.
To repent means to feel or express sincere regret or remorse about one’s wrongdoing or sin and to change your mind and turn away from sin
The Bible says in Romans 3:23 that, For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; No one is exempt. We are all called to a place of repentance and we must strive to get rid of whatever might be considered sin in our lives.
So, how near is the kingdom of God?
Through the complete and finished work on the Cross, as believers we are living today under the reign of God, albeit incompletely. As we bow before God in worship, as we repent of our sins and as we seek God’s agenda for our lives as well as commit ourselves to live for his purposes and glory, we are experiencing the kingdom of God in anticipation of that day when all the earth will flourish under the glorious reign of God. It is a time and it is a season for us to repent and bring ourselves under the authority of God’s kingdom.
PRAYER FOR TODAY
Father Almighty God, we bless You for this new day. We bow before Your throne of grace this morning, that we may obtain mercy. We repent of our sins O Lord and ask that you forgive us. Help us as we turn to You, dear Lord.
In Jesus mighty name. Amen
