Popular Nigerian singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has ruled out supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 presidential election, despite his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, endorsing President Bola Tinubu.
The singer made this known during an interview with News Central TV following the recent Osun State governorship election, in which his uncle secured victory.
Davido said he was not obligated to adopt his uncle’s political position, explaining that Governor Adeleke might have personal or state-related reasons for supporting Tinubu.
He maintained that he had not decided which presidential candidate to support in 2027 but insisted that the APC would not be his choice.
“I don’t have a presidential candidate. It might change, sha. It’s not going to be APC, but everybody should have their own,” the singer said.
Reflecting on his political involvement, Davido recalled supporting former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar when they were both members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He also disclosed that he campaigned for the APC in 2015, when the party emerged from a merger of opposition parties, noting that his late uncle was associated with the party at the time.
The singer also highlighted his contribution to the recent Osun governorship election, claiming that he helped defeat 17 incumbent governors despite their political influence, security apparatus and financial resources.
“I defeated 17 governors with all their power, with all their immunity, escort commanders, DSS, with all their billions. I defeated them with just a phone,” he said.
Davido added that he believed he had fulfilled his responsibility to the people of Osun State and his family through his involvement in the election.
