The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has refuted claims made by the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) that its maintenance activities were responsible for power outages affecting BEDC customers.
In a statement released on March 15, 2025, TCN clarified that its planned outage on March 11 at the Amukpe Transmission Station was completed on the same day, and power supply was restored.
TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, stated, “For clarification purposes, TCN only applied for a planned outage on March 11, 2025, at the Amukpe Transmission Station, which was completed on the same day and bulk power supply restored.”
TCN acknowledged that the Ughelli/Shell 33kV feeder T1 60MVA experienced a fault on March 14, 2025, but emphasized that other power delivery issues reported by BEDC were due to faults on BEDC’s own 33kV feeders.
TCN urged BEDC to provide accurate information to its customers, calling for better communication. “TCN urges BEDC to please provide accurate information to its customers, stating facts as they are, for the benefit of all stakeholders,” Mbah added.
