Ten constituents from Kogi Central Senatorial District have filed a lawsuit at the Federal High Court in Abuja, challenging the six-month suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan by the Senate.

The lawsuit, filed on April 4, 2025, argues that the suspension, imposed on March 6 over allegations of misconduct, is unconstitutional and violates their fundamental rights to political participation.

“The suspension constitutes a violation of the applicants’ rights to participate freely in governance,” the applicants claim in their suit.

The group—comprising Ovavu Iliyasu, Isah Otini, Onivehu Amoto, Isah Mediant, Ogunmola Samuel, Umar Oyiza, Megida Sadiq, Siyaka Akinlade, Michael Ademola, and Ananyi Omeiza—asserts that by suspending Akpoti-Uduaghan, the Senate has deprived them of their right to be represented in the Senate, leaving hundreds of thousands of constituents without a voice in national matters.

The lawsuit, led by renowned human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN), demands that the court annul the suspension and restore Akpoti-Uduaghan’s rights and entitlements, including her access to the National Assembly.

A hearing date has not yet been scheduled.
