Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, says he is confident that his administration’s track record will secure him re-election as the 2025 governorship campaign officially kicks off on Wednesday, June 11.
Soludo, who is seeking a second term under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), emerged unopposed during the party’s primary held in April at the Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, where over 3,260 delegates endorsed his candidacy.
Speaking to Sunday PUNCH, Soludo’s Chief Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, said the governor’s achievements will speak for him during the campaign season.
“He is going to campaign and he will campaign based on the massive achievements he has recorded,” Aburime said. “If you have been to Anambra State lately, you will see that there have been so many monumental strides that he has recorded.”
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced that campaigns for the November 8 election will officially run from June 11 until midnight on November 6. INEC also confirmed that 16 political parties met the deadline for candidate submissions and would be on the ballot.
In a statement, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, said the final candidate list was compiled after verifying details and completing substitution processes.
Soludo is set to face Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) among other candidates.
Despite political tensions, Aburime expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu would remain neutral.
“The President is a democrat, and he will allow everything to go freely,” he said. “He has also acknowledged the fact that Soludo has done well. So, he will allow everything to go according to the law.”
The battle for Anambra’s top seat begins in earnest this week, with Soludo betting on his performance to carry him through.
