Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has alleged that soldiers attempted to prevent him from entering Osun State as the state holds its governorship election.

Davido made the claim in a post on his verified X account on Saturday, saying he had received information that soldiers were trying to stop him from accessing the state.

The singer insisted that every Nigerian has the right to move freely, adding that he would not be deterred from entering Osun.

His allegation came against the backdrop of movement restrictions imposed across the state ahead of the governorship election. The Nigeria Police Force had announced that movement would be restricted from midnight on Friday until 6pm on Saturday as part of measures to ensure a peaceful poll.

Security agencies deployed personnel across the state to maintain order and prevent incidents during the election.

Davido has been actively campaigning for his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking another term in office under the Accord Party. He is contesting against candidates including the All Progressives Congress flagbearer, Bola Oyebamiji.

The singer’s claim attracted reactions online, with some Nigerians linking the alleged incident to the general movement restriction announced for election day.

Former presidential media aide, Bashir Ahmad, criticised Davido’s position, describing his reaction as dramatic. He argued that the movement restriction was a standard election security measure and was not targeted at the singer.

Ahmad maintained that the constitutional right to freedom of movement does not prevent security authorities from enforcing lawful restrictions introduced to protect the electoral process.

The Osun election is being conducted amid heightened security and concerns over alleged vote-buying as candidates battle for control of the state.
