Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has called on residents to actively and peacefully take part in the upcoming Local Government elections, assuring them of safety and a smooth electoral process.
In a statement released by his media adviser, Gboyega Akosile, the governor stressed the importance of the local government as the closest arm of government to the people, adding that it plays a crucial role in providing basic services and driving development at the grassroots level.
He encouraged all eligible voters to come out in large numbers to vote for candidates who will effectively represent their communities. Sanwo-Olu described the polls as an essential part of democratic participation and a way for citizens to make their voices heard.
To ensure a safe environment, he confirmed that security agencies have been stationed at polling units and communities across the state to protect voters, officials, and election materials.
Sanwo-Olu also expressed confidence in the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), noting that the body is well-prepared to conduct a free, fair, and transparent election.
He urged political parties, candidates, and their supporters to remain peaceful and law-abiding throughout the process. Addressing young people in particular, he asked them to steer clear of violence and instead promote peace and responsible citizenship.
The governor concluded by encouraging residents to show the world that Lagos values peace and inclusive governance.
