Volodymyr Zelensky has cautioned that Russia is preparing what he described as a new large-scale assault on Ukraine, urging citizens to stay alert and follow safety instructions.
In a public message, Zelensky said Ukrainian intelligence points to preparations for intensified attacks following recent heavy bombardments on Kyiv, which he described as among the most severe since the full-scale invasion began in 2022. He advised residents to respond promptly to air raid warnings and rely on official emergency services.
The warning comes after Russian forces reportedly escalated missile and drone strikes across Ukrainian territory, while also cautioning foreign diplomats to reduce their presence in Kyiv amid rising tensions. Moscow has linked its recent military actions to earlier Ukrainian strikes in occupied areas.
Zelensky also renewed appeals to international partners for additional air defence systems, particularly Patriot missile batteries, arguing that stronger defences are needed to intercept ongoing aerial attacks. Ukraine has continued to press for increased military support as fighting persists.
Diplomatic efforts led by external mediators to reach a ceasefire have made little progress in recent months, with both sides continuing strikes as the conflict stretches on.
