The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, has once again failed to appear before the House of Representatives Ad-Hoc Committee on Rivers State Oversight, despite multiple invitations.
The committee, chaired by Rep. Julius Ihonvbere, had scheduled an interactive session for April 17, 2025, which was rescheduled to April 24 after Ibas requested a delay. However, on the rescheduled date, Ibas failed to show up, and no reason for his absence was provided by the committee.
The session was intended to discuss developments in Rivers State under Ibas’s administration since his appointment.
Despite attending the National Economic Council meeting in Abuja, Ibas did not attend the session, raising questions about his commitment to the oversight process.
Rep. Ihonvbere, visibly frustrated, declined to comment when approached by journalists, simply stating, “No comment,” as he exited Committee Room 301 with other lawmakers. Following Ibas’s absence, the meeting has been postponed indefinitely.
In addition to the oversight committee’s concerns, Ibas directed local governments in Rivers State to submit their financial reports for the past two years.
This move has sparked panic among some local officials, as the reports could provide insights into financial management under Ibas’s leadership.
