The Oyo State Police Command has successfully rescued 84 Congolese nationals from a human trafficking syndicate operating in Ibadan. The victims were allegedly held captive for an unknown period in a building located in the Orogun area of the city.

The traffickers lured the victims to Nigeria under the guise of offering employment opportunities. They extorted large sums of money from the victims’ families, reportedly in US dollars, as part of their deceitful scheme.

A source revealed that the victims, including a baby, were seen being escorted to police vans in a video shared by Channels TV. “The individuals, visibly distressed, were taken to the Police Headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan, for further investigation,” the source stated.

While efforts to contact the Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, were unsuccessful, the police continue their investigation into the human trafficking operation.

This rescue highlights the ongoing fight against human trafficking and the vulnerabilities faced by many in search of better opportunities.

The police have vowed to pursue justice and ensure the victims receive the necessary support.
