The Ondo State Police Command has taken four police officers into custody after a video circulating on social media allegedly showed them extorting money from a motorist along the Ijebu-Ode–Ore–Benin Expressway.

The officers were identified by the command as Assistant Superintendent of Police Elomore Sodayo, Inspector Adefila Adewale, Inspector Olorunfemi Opeyemi and Inspector Odusola Peter.

Speaking at the police headquarters in Akure on Friday, the Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, said the command acted swiftly after the video surfaced, stressing that the Nigeria Police Force would not tolerate any form of misconduct or behaviour capable of damaging public confidence in the institution.

According to him, a full investigation has been launched to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine the involvement of each officer.

Ohagwu reiterated that all personnel are expected to carry out their duties professionally, uphold the rights and dignity of members of the public, and strictly comply with the Force’s Code of Conduct and operational guidelines.

He assured residents that anyone found guilty after the investigation would face appropriate disciplinary measures, reaffirming the command’s commitment to accountability, discipline and professionalism within the Force.
