The Oyo State Police Command has cautioned the public against spreading false information about the ongoing investigation into the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that a pastor had been arrested for allegedly supplying arms and ammunition to the kidnappers.
The command said the report was false and clarified that neither the police nor any other security agency involved in the rescue operation had made such an arrest.
According to the police, the viral post failed to identify the alleged pastor or provide any verifiable details, making the claim unfounded.
The command warned that the spread of unverified information could undermine ongoing rescue efforts and erode public confidence in security agencies.
Residents were urged to disregard the report and rely only on updates issued through the official communication channels of the Oyo State Police Command.
The police also warned that anyone found deliberately spreading false information capable of disrupting security operations would be investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to rescuing the abducted pupils and teachers safely while maintaining law and order across the state.
