Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has criticized the sluggish operation of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) during Saturday’s by-election in Edo Central Senatorial District.
After casting his ballot at Ward 2, Polling Unit 1, Udomi Primary School, Esan Central LGA, the governor said the machines deployed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were delaying accreditation.
“I just voted, but the process is discouraging. The BVAS takes too long to work,” Okpebholo told reporters.
He, however, applauded INEC for ensuring a peaceful exercise and urged voters in the district to come out, cast their ballots, and protect their mandate.
“The process here has been orderly, and reports from other locations are also positive. INEC is doing well, but they need to address the technology issue,” he added.
The by-election was scheduled to fill the vacant Edo Central senatorial seat following Okpebholo’s emergence as governor.
