Members of the Nigerian community in Poland have welcomed Nigeria’s Ambassador-designate to Poland, Barrister Chioma Ohakim, expressing confidence that her appointment will strengthen diplomatic ties and deepen cooperation between both countries.
The reception, held in Warsaw, brought together leaders of Nigerian organisations, members of the diaspora community and other guests to formally receive the envoy ahead of the commencement of her diplomatic assignment.
Speaking during the event, the leader of the APC Support Group and City Boy Movement in Poland, Adekunle Ayoola, described Ohakim’s appointment as a reflection of her experience in public service. He said the Nigerian community was optimistic that her tenure would promote stronger collaboration between Nigeria and Poland in areas such as trade, investment, education, technology and cultural exchange.
Ayoola also assured the ambassador-designate of the diaspora community’s support, noting that Nigerians in Poland would continue to work with the embassy to project a positive image of the country and contribute to national development initiatives.
Also addressing the gathering, Chairman of the Nigerian Diaspora Community in Poland, Dr Emanuel Kalejaiye, said the arrival of the new envoy marked the beginning of another phase in the relationship between the Nigerian Embassy and the Nigerian community in the European country.
He stated that the diaspora community had maintained a longstanding relationship with Nigeria’s diplomatic mission in Poland and looked forward to greater engagement, transparency and collaboration under Ohakim’s leadership. Kalejaiye also thanked the Polish government and its people for their continued hospitality towards Nigerians living in the country.
In her remarks, Ohakim appreciated the warm reception and pledged to work towards strengthening bilateral relations between Nigeria and Poland. She called on Nigerians residing in Poland to support the embassy’s efforts, stressing the importance of unity and cooperation in promoting Nigeria’s interests abroad.
The event was attended by former Imo State Governor Ikedi Ohakim, as well as leaders of Nigerian associations, elders and members of the Nigerian community in Poland.
