A man in his 30s is battling for his life after a shark attack near Rottnest Island, off the coast of Perth, Australia.

Emergency teams responded shortly after 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, deploying a rescue helicopter alongside police and island emergency personnel to reach the victim and rush him for urgent treatment.

According to St John Ambulance Western Australia, the man sustained severe injuries and was airlifted from the scene in critical condition.
Records of shark encounters in Australia show nearly 1,300 incidents since the 1700s, with over 260 fatalities recorded during that period.

The incident adds to growing concerns about shark activity in Australian waters. Earlier this year, a 12-year-old boy died following a shark attack in Sydney Harbour, an event that led to the temporary closure of several beaches.

Authorities also reported that four shark incidents occurred within two days in the same region, prompting renewed safety warnings for beachgoers.

Marine experts believe rising ocean temperatures and increased human activity along coastlines may be affecting shark migration patterns, leading to more frequent encounters with swimmers and surfers.
