US mother Lindsay Clancy is back in court after jurors failed to reach a verdict in her murder trial over the deaths of her three children.
Clancy’s lawyer has asked the judge to use his power to declare her not guilty, questioning whether prosecutors presented enough evidence to prove that she was responsible for the killings.
Prosecutors, however, argue that the state “met its burden” of proving Clancy’s guilt. The 12-member jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict, bringing the trial to an end without a decision.
The judge said he would consider the defence’s request to dismiss the case entirely at a new hearing scheduled for 2 November.
Clancy, 36, has admitted killing her children but pleaded not guilty to murder. Her defence has argued that she was suffering from postpartum psychosis when she killed Cora, Dawson and Callan.
