Lagos State has launched 34 newly built residential units for magistrates and senior legal officers, further enhancing judicial infrastructure across the state.
The initiative, which includes a modern Deputy Sheriff Warehouse for storing confiscated goods, was inaugurated by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Friday in Ketu and Ikorodu.
“This is yet another testament to our unwavering dedication to judicial reform, institutional excellence, and service to the people of Lagos,” Sanwo-Olu stated during the inauguration.
He emphasized that the project was designed to improve the welfare and productivity of legal professionals, ensuring a more efficient justice delivery system.
Of the 34 units, 24 will be allocated to magistrates, and 10 to senior officers within the Ministry of Justice.
Governor Sanwo-Olu handed over the keys to Chief Judge Hon. Justice Kazeem Alogba, underscoring the critical role of robust infrastructure in maintaining judicial integrity.
He also praised the newly constructed warehouse, highlighting its role in streamlining administrative processes and reducing case backlogs.
“With the commissioning of this state-of-the-art warehouse, we are ensuring the preservation of critical materials with confidentiality and ease of access,” he noted.
The Governor also urged local landlords not to raise rents in response to the development, calling for consideration and responsibility in their actions. “Please, do not take undue advantage of this,” Sanwo-Olu urged.
Justice Alogba expressed gratitude for the government’s ongoing support and reassured that the new developments would significantly enhance judicial performance, with more welfare initiatives planned in the near future.
