Lagos State is set for its local government elections this Saturday, with 139 candidates from 10 different political parties vying for the 57 available chairmanship positions.

 

According to figures from the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), a total of 842 councillorship hopefuls representing 14 political parties will also compete for 376 legislative seats across the state.

 

Out of the 19 parties that initially showed interest in the polls, only 15 submitted final lists of candidates.

 

The All Progressives Congress (APC) remains the most dominant, presenting candidates in all 57 local government areas and all 376 wards.

 

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) follows with contestants in 45 local councils and 259 wards.

 

The Labour Party is putting forward 22 chairmanship and 130 councillorship candidates, while the Zenith Labour Party has six chairmanship contenders and 21 for councillorship roles.

 

Other parties listed by LASIEC with approved candidates include Accord, African Action Congress, Action Alliance, Allied People’s Movement, All Progressives Grand Alliance, Social Democratic Party, National Rescue Movement, Young Progressive Party, Youth Party, Action Peoples Party, and African Democratic Congress.
