The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has accused three judges of mishandling his trial and appealed to the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) to step in.
In a petition he signed and submitted through his lawyer, Kanu claimed that Justices Binta Nyako, Haruna Tsammani, and Garba Lawal committed serious misconduct that denied him justice.
Kanu, who has been in custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since his arrest and return from Kenya in 2021, wants the NBA to investigate the judges and hold them accountable.
He also urged the association, currently meeting in Enugu, to reject the use of abolished laws and questionable legal processes in criminal cases. According to him, no Nigerian should ever again face detention through abduction or trial under repealed statutes.
Kanu said the handling of his case has damaged public confidence in the judiciary, insisting that errant judges must face consequences to restore trust in the legal system.
