A former Nigerian Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, has expressed relief following her discharge by a court in the United Kingdom over long-standing bribery allegations.
The ruling was delivered at the Southwark Crown Court in London, where she had faced multiple charges linked to claims of corruption, including allegations of receiving bribes and involvement in a conspiracy case. The court ultimately dismissed all counts against her.
Reacting shortly after the judgment, Alison-Madueke described the outcome as a major emotional relief after what she said had been a difficult legal process lasting about 11 years. She noted that the case had taken a toll not only on her but also on her family, including her elderly mother and her son.
She said she had remained in the United Kingdom throughout the duration of the proceedings and maintained that she had always carried out her responsibilities while in office to the best of her ability.
In her remarks, she also reflected on her faith, expressing gratitude for what she described as divine strength during the long-running legal battle. She summed up her experience by saying the years had been painful but ultimately reaffirmed her belief in God.
The case, which attracted attention in both Nigeria and the UK, has now come to a close following the court’s decision.
News Central reported her reaction shortly after the verdict was announced.
