Former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode has backed Iran’s recent missile strikes against Israel, calling it a justified and inevitable response to what he described as an “unprovoked” Israeli attack.
Fani-Kayode made his remarks in a post on X (formerly Twitter) following reports that Iran launched hundreds of ballistic missiles and drones towards Israel in retaliation for Israeli airstrikes.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran has finally hit back and struck the Jewish state with missiles and drones. This was inevitable and it is just the beginning,” he said.
He criticized Israel’s military actions, stating: “The attack on Iran by Israel was not only unprovoked but is also a condemnable violation of international law. It is indeed a declaration of war.”
According to the former minister, the U.S. played a complicit role by allegedly deceiving Iran with negotiations while Israel prepared for conflict.
“Simply put, the Iranians were lured into a false sense of security by the Americans whilst Israel was preparing for war. This makes Americans complicit in this attack despite their denials,” he wrote.
Fani-Kayode condemned the killing of Iranian civilians and leaders, asserting that Iran had every right to defend itself.
“To those nations that say Israel felt sufficiently threatened by Iran and has a right to self-defence, I ask: does Iran not have the same right after being attacked?” he asked.
He warned that the escalation may not be over, hinting at a broader conflict: “The retaliatory attack that Iran launched this evening is just the beginning and by the time this is all over there may be no Zionist state left.”
He concluded by criticizing global support for Israel, saying: “Those who bend the knee to the Israeli thugs and bullies… fail to appreciate the fact that the beast that they are applauding will eventually turn on them.”
Tensions remain high as the exchange between the two countries fuels fears of a wider regional conflict.
