Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured a second term in office after emerging victorious in the Ekiti State governorship election held on Saturday.

The result was announced by the election’s Returning Officer, Prof. Adenike Oladiji, at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters in Ado-Ekiti in the early hours of Sunday.

According to the final figures released by INEC, Oyebanji polled 319,224 votes to defeat his closest challengers, Olumayokun Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who received 40,533 votes, and Dare Bejide of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), who secured 12,872 votes.

Declaring the outcome, the Returning Officer stated that Oyebanji had fulfilled all legal requirements and was therefore returned elected as governor of Ekiti State.

The APC candidate recorded victories across all 16 local government areas of the state, strengthening his grip on the governorship seat. One of the notable results came from Ikere Local Government Area, the home base of PDP candidate Oluyede, where Oyebanji still emerged ahead.

Election data released by INEC showed that out of the 988,251 registered voters in the state, 384,940 were accredited for the poll. A total of 382,109 votes were cast, while 375,777 were declared valid.

Several local government areas delivered significant margins for the APC candidate, including Ado, Irepodun/Ifelodun, Ekiti West, Ikole, and Ekiti East.

The outcome further consolidates the APC’s control of the state and gives Oyebanji another four-year mandate to continue his administration’s programmes and policies.
