The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has formally approved the new leadership of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), ending weeks of uncertainty following the party’s national convention.

The electoral body updated its official portal on Friday to reflect Hakeem Baba-Ahmed as the National Chairman of the party, alongside other members of the National Working Committee.

The PRP held its national convention in Abuja on March 28, 2026, where Baba-Ahmed – formerly a political adviser in the office of the Vice President was elected to lead the party. The event was reportedly observed by INEC officials.

However, the delay in updating the party’s leadership details on INEC’s platform sparked concern among members and supporters, who questioned the status of the new executives.

The issue gained attention after party officials publicly raised concerns over the missing records, insisting that the absence on the INEC portal was causing confusion among members and the general public.

Party leaders maintained that the situation did not affect the legality of the new executive team, stressing that internal activities and membership registration were continuing without disruption.

Shortly after the concerns were made public, INEC resolved the issue by uploading the updated list of PRP officials.

The newly recognised leadership includes the National Secretary, National Treasurer, National Financial Secretary, and National Legal Adviser, among others.

The development effectively brings closure to the dispute and confirms the party’s current national leadership structure under Baba-Ahmed.
