The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed reports suggesting it has published the timetable for Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.

In a statement released on Friday, INEC, through its Chief Press Secretary Adedayo Oketola, described the circulating information as false and misleading. The commission stressed that it strictly follows the law in all its election preparations.

Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022, requires INEC to issue a notice of election at least 360 days before a general election. Any timetable or schedule released outside this legal framework is not official, the commission said.

INEC assured Nigerians that the official timetable for the 2027 elections will be released in accordance with the Constitution and the Electoral Act. The commission urged the public and media outlets to rely only on information from its verified platforms and ignore unauthorized reports.
