Ikeja Electric has announced the appointment of Mrs. Ogochukwu Onyelucheya as its Acting Chief Executive Officer, with the appointment taking effect from July 1, 2026.

The company said the leadership change follows the transition of its current Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Folake Soetan, who will assume broader strategic responsibilities across the power and upstream operations of the Sahara Group.

In a statement issued on Saturday by the company’s Head of Corporate Communications, Kingsley Okotie, Ikeja Electric said the transition is part of efforts to strengthen its leadership team and sustain operational growth, innovation and improved service delivery.

Soetan, who has led the electricity distribution company since 2020, was credited with driving significant improvements in operational efficiency, customer service and stakeholder confidence during her six-year tenure.

Chairman of Ikeja Electric, Kola Adesina, praised her contributions, describing her leadership as instrumental in repositioning the company into a more resilient and customer-focused organisation.

Reflecting on her time at the company, Soetan said it had been a privilege to lead the organisation and work with a dedicated team committed to delivering value to customers. She added that her new role would allow her to support Sahara Group’s broader goal of providing sustainable energy solutions across Africa.

The company expressed confidence in Onyelucheya’s ability to build on the achievements recorded under her predecessor, citing her extensive experience in corporate leadership, finance and business transformation.

According to Ikeja Electric, the new acting CEO has over two decades of experience spanning the banking and energy sectors, where she has led strategic initiatives focused on digital transformation, automation and revenue assurance.

She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, a Master’s degree in Finance and Financial Law from the University of London, and is also an alumnus of Harvard Business School.

Speaking on her appointment, Onyelucheya pledged to strengthen customer service, improve operational performance and continue delivering value to stakeholders.

Adesina said the leadership transition reflects the company’s commitment to maintaining operational excellence, expanding access to reliable electricity and creating long-term value for customers, employees, regulators, investors and host communities.
