The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ette Ibas (retd.), conducted an inspection of the ongoing reconstruction work at the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex in Port Harcourt on Saturday.
Ibas, accompanied by the Head of Rivers State Civil Service, Dr. George Nwaeke, visited the site, which is being handled by Monier Construction Company (MCC). He emphasized the importance of delivering the project within the agreed timelines.
“I had been at the Executive arm of the State governance structure and one of the pillars that is missing for now is the legislature, and for them to function effectively, they also need a place to work from,” Ibas stated.
He further stressed the urgency of ensuring the project is completed to allow for legislative activities to resume promptly.
Awarded to MCC, the project consists of a two-storey building featuring 34 en-suite offices, meeting rooms, and a conference hall, all designed to support the legislature’s operations. The project is expected to be completed in six months.
Ibas made it clear that the state government had provided the necessary funding and now the onus lies on the contractor to adhere to the agreed schedule.
“They have a schedule and they have timelines that I believe they will like to adhere to. The state has done its own bit by providing the necessary funds,” he added.
