Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has spoken about the emotional challenges of living in the public eye, revealing that she sometimes breaks down in private despite her cheerful personality.
The actress made this known during an interview with CNN, where she discussed the pressures of celebrity life, public scrutiny and the difficulty of keeping her personal struggles away from public attention.
Akindele explained that her public appearances do not always reflect her emotional experiences, admitting that she sometimes retreats to her room to cry before finding the strength to carry on.
“I cry. I lock myself in the room, cry, break down, and hit the bed. But I just pick myself up and come back to life,” she said.
The filmmaker also recalled how public criticism has sometimes made her question her personal decisions, particularly when it comes to her relationships and how people perceive her.
She said there are moments when she reflects on her choices and worries about the reactions they might attract.
“Sometimes I tell myself, you’ve made a mistake again. How are people going to judge you?” she added.
However, Akindele noted that she has gradually learnt to navigate criticism and move forward without allowing other people’s opinions to determine her sense of self.
She further highlighted the importance of taking care of her personal well-being and maintaining close relationships with loved ones despite the demands of her career.
