A Hamas delegation has met with Egypt’s intelligence chief, Hassan Rashad, to discuss efforts to implement a proposed post-war plan for Gaza.
The meeting, held on Sunday, was led by Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya, according to Egypt’s state news agency.
The discussions centred on the US-backed 15-point roadmap for Gaza, which includes the establishment of a technical committee to oversee the territory’s administration.
Hamas said in July that it was prepared to hand over its weapons to the proposed committee as part of the plan. However, the proposal has faced resistance from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has maintained that Israeli forces will not withdraw from Gaza until Hamas is fully disarmed.
The Hamas delegation arrived in Egypt on Saturday ahead of a planned visit by US envoy Jared Kushner.
A Hamas official said the group would brief Egyptian officials on recent developments in negotiations and alleged violations of the ceasefire by Israel.
The official added that Hamas remains prepared to implement the proposed agreement if Israel also commits to its terms.
Further talks involving Hamas negotiators, US officials and Nickolay Mladenov, the Board of Peace’s representative for Gaza, are expected to be discussed during Kushner’s visit.
