The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), in collaboration with the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) Limited, is working to accelerate the completion of the 27.1km Bonny Ring Road and bridges in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State.
NDDC’s Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, reaffirmed this commitment during a project inspection, noting that the initiative is part of President Bola Tinubu’s directive to boost infrastructure across Nigeria’s oil-producing region. His remarks were shared in a statement by the commission’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Seledi Thompson-Wakama.
While in Bonny, Ogbuku and his team visited the traditional ruler, King Edward Asimini William Dappa Pepple III, to seek his blessings and extend an invitation to the NDDC’s 25th-anniversary celebration, which will begin with a thanksgiving service in Ondo State.
Ogbuku also announced that the commission would honour the late Harold Dappa-Biriye—a key Niger Delta advocate—by naming a facility at the new NDDC headquarters in Port Harcourt after him.
He further noted that the commission is actively partnering with oil and gas companies to support key projects like the Kaa-Ataba and Okrika-Borokiri bridges. He explained that the Bonny Ring Road project, featured in the 2024 NDDC budget, is part of the legacy projects backed by the Federal Government to drive development and improve livelihoods in the region.
According to Ogbuku, the NDDC’s efforts are aimed at complementing, not competing with, state governments and are focused on meeting the actual needs of communities to create long-term economic impact.
