The Federal Ministry of Education has clarified that schools across Nigeria will not be closed on November 24, 2025, dismissing recent social media reports as false.

In a statement on Saturday, the ministry said no directive for a nationwide shutdown has come from the Federal Government, the Ministry of Education, state authorities, or any recognised security agency. The ministry’s spokesperson, Folasade Boriowo, urged the public to verify information through official sources before sharing it.

“Any communication from unverified sources should be ignored. Only announcements from the Federal Government, the Federal Ministry of Education, state governments, or recognised security agencies are authentic,” the statement said.

The clarification follows the Federal Government’s temporary closure of 41 federal secondary schools in high-risk areas, following a wave of abductions in Niger and Kebbi States. Other states, including Kwara, Plateau, Katsina, and Niger, have also temporarily shut schools amid rising insecurity. In Taraba State, Governor Agbu Kefas directed all public and private schools to deboard students immediately.

The ministry emphasized the importance of relying solely on verified information to prevent the spread of misinformation and ensure the safety of students.
