The Independent National Electoral Commission has reaffirmed that voting in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections will begin promptly at 8:30am on Saturday, in line with electoral guidelines.

The assurance was given by the commission’s Head of Voter Education and Publicity in the FCT, Samuel Bassey, during a live interview on Arise Television on Friday. He said the commission had taken deliberate steps to avoid the delays that have affected elections in the past.

According to Bassey, sensitive and non-sensitive materials, as well as election personnel, were deployed overnight to various polling units across the territory to ensure early commencement of voting.

“We are fully prepared, and voters should expect polling to start by 8:30am as scheduled,” he said, adding that the arrangements were designed to significantly reduce, if not completely eliminate, late starts.

The Area Council elections are taking place across the Federal Capital Territory, with INEC maintaining that it is ready to conduct a free, fair and credible exercise.

Bassey further noted that the commission’s logistics planning and early deployment strategy reflect its commitment to improving the electoral process and boosting public confidence in the conduct of the polls.
