The Federal Government has repatriated more than 2,000 Nigerians stranded in Niger Republic, Libya, and Sudan between January and April 2025, working in partnership with the International Organisation for Migration.

According to data obtained from the National Emergency Management Agency and the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, 750 Nigerians were evacuated from Niger, 1,303 from Libya, and 140 from Sudan.

Breakdown of the monthly figures shows that 542 citizens were repatriated in January, 664 in February, 640 in March, and 347 in April.

The recent rescue of 231 Nigerians trafficked to Ghana was not included in the repatriation numbers.

Amid the rising cases of illegal migration and trafficking, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a fresh warning to the public—particularly young Nigerians—against falling for fraudulent job offers.

Ministry spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, cautioned: “Nigerians should avoid dubious agents and verify all foreign job offers through official channels. Don’t fall victim to scams disguised as overseas opportunities.”

The government reiterated its commitment to protecting citizens abroad while urging more awareness on the risks of irregular migration.
