Enugu Airport Set to Resume on Monday

- 27 April 2025

Flight operations at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, will officially resume on Monday, April 28, 2025, following the completion of emergency runway repairs.

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) announced the reopening on Saturday, saying the repairs were necessary after a “sudden and significant rupture” in a critical section of the runway.

Mrs. Obiageli Orah, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at FAAN, confirmed the development in a statement.

“The work was scheduled to begin on April 22nd and conclude before reopening on May 6th, 2025,” Orah explained. “However, rehabilitation works on the runway have been completed, and the runway is cleared for landings and takeoffs by the engineers working with FAAN.”

She added that FAAN prioritised the safety of all users during the shutdown and appreciated the patience shown by stakeholders.

“FAAN appreciates all airport users and stakeholders for their understanding and cooperation during this time. The Authority sincerely apologises for the inconvenience but assures the public that all actions were taken in the interest of safety,” Orah said.

Flight activities had been temporarily suspended to allow emergency repairs after damages were discovered on the asphalt surface.
