The Ekiti State Government has approved Monday, October 5, 2026, as a work-free day for teachers across the state to enable them to take part in activities marking World Teachers’ Day.
The Commissioner for Education, Dr Adebimpe Aderiye, announced the decision in a statement, urging teachers to use the opportunity to participate fully in the celebrations.
As a result of the declaration, day students in public schools are expected to remain at home on Monday. Parents, guardians, school authorities and students have been advised to make the necessary arrangements.
Aderiye praised teachers across the state for their commitment to educating children and contributing to the development of Ekiti’s education sector.
She also extended the state government’s appreciation to teachers for their dedication and wished them a happy World Teachers’ Day.
World Teachers’ Day is observed every October 5 to recognise the contributions of teachers and highlight their importance to education and society.
Ekiti is among the states that have declared Monday a work-free day for teachers this year, with Kwara State also announcing a similar measure to allow teachers participate in activities marking the occasion.
