The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Edo State has directed local government officials to start wearing caps branded with President Bola Tinubu’s insignia during official engagements.
Rt. Hon. Sunny Ekpetika Ekpeson, who chairs the association in Edo, issued the directive to all 18 council chairmen, instructing them to ensure that supervisory councillors, senior special assistants, and special assistants comply.
According to Ekpeson, the decision is aimed at strengthening grassroots identification with President Tinubu’s leadership and political direction in the state. He said the move aligns with Governor Monday Okpebholo’s recent appeal for unity and political alignment among party members across Edo.
In a statement signed by his media aide, Agbukor Lucky Apeakhuye, the ALGON chairman said the branded caps symbolize local-level solidarity and readiness to support the president’s re-election campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“The 3.5 million votes pledged to President Tinubu from Edo must be backed by visible commitment,” Ekpeson stated. “We are building that momentum from the grassroots through coordinated and symbolic actions that express our loyalty.”
He urged local government officials to take the directive seriously, adding that a consistent show of unity would send a powerful political message from the state to the national level.
