Nigerian business mogul, Aliko Dangote, left guests laughing on Thursday during the commissioning of the Lekki Seaport Access Road when he playfully corrected the Master of Ceremonies (MC) for referring to him as “President of Dangote Group” in the presence of President Bola Tinubu.
Naija News reports that the event, which had President Tinubu in attendance, saw Dangote gently remind the MC of proper protocol regarding titles.
“Mr MC, for your attention, next time, when Mr President is around, my own title is ‘chairman’, not ‘president’. Whether with a small p or tiny little p, don’t call me president o. Thank you,” Dangote quipped, drawing laughter from the crowd.
He then turned to President Tinubu with an apology, saying, “I’m sorry sir, he called me president. I didn’t allow him to do so, sir.”
The billionaire businessman also took a moment to praise the Tinubu administration’s economic policies, describing them as “decisive and reassuring.”
According to Dangote, measures such as the removal of fuel subsidy, tax reforms, and the Nigeria First Policy will lead to long-term economic benefits for the country.
He added, “By the time Nigeria starts reaping the benefits of these policies, everyone will want to rush to Aso Rock to appreciate the President.”
The commissioning of the Lekki Seaport Access Road marks another step in the government’s infrastructure drive and public-private collaboration for economic growth.
