Independent petroleum marketers in Nigeria have started receiving fuel deliveries at no cost, thanks to Dangote Refinery’s newly deployed compressed natural gas (CNG) trucks.
Abubakar Shettima, National President of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), confirmed that marketers in the South West, including Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, and Ibadan, have begun receiving fuel from the refinery’s CNG fleet. The program, initially set to launch on August 15, was delayed due to logistical challenges in China.
Dangote Refinery plans to roll out a total of 4,000 CNG trucks nationwide before October, with over 1,000 already in operation. The initiative allows only registered marketers to access the free fuel delivery. Shettima stressed that unregistered marketers can easily join the scheme through Dangote’s online portal at any time.
“The trucks have started moving, and in most parts of the Western Zone, fuel is already being offloaded,” Shettima said. “Our marketers are pleased with the development, and the price of petrol has begun to drop. Prices at stations are expected to fall from N865 to N841 under the new arrangement.”
The free delivery system is part of Dangote Refinery’s efforts to streamline distribution and reduce costs for independent marketers, reinforcing the refinery’s commitment to boosting local fuel availability while supporting affordability for consumers.
