Barcelona have submitted an opening offer of €100m (£86.7m) for Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez.

The Spanish champions have tabled their first offer for Alvarez, who has informed Atleti of his desire to leave the club and move to the Camp Nou.

Barcelona have identified Alvarez as their number one target to replace Robert Lewandowski, who is leaving Catalonia this summer.

Alvarez has scored 49 goals in 106 games for Atletico Madrid in all competitions since arriving from Manchester City for a fee of £81.8m in 2024. The 26-year-old has established himself as one ofLa Liga’s leading forwards, and Barcelona are now pushing to secure a deal.

Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Barcelona’s bid is worth €100m, with no players involved in the talks or future add-ons. Barcelona had been linked with offering Ferran Torres to Atleti in part exchange, but the first bid does not include any potential makeweights.

Atletico Madrid are understood to be unhappy with the situation around Alvarez, who is considered a key part of the project under Diego Simeone.

Barcelona are determined to add the Argentina international to a new-look frontline, alongside Anthony Gordon, who is close to completing a £69m transfer from Newcastle. Gordon is in Catalonia undergoing his medical examinations ahead of that move.
